Joining The Blog Hop – Time To Laugh

I think the Blog Hop is a really cool idea. I’m going to start participating in these ever week. It’s a great way to find new blogs to read and for people to find your blog. Add your link to the McLinky box, do your post and get the code. It’s really easy and fun.

This week’s blog hop is Time to Laugh! I am not a mama of a human baby but the mama to a psycho little furbaby! Sometimes I wonder if she was human in another life though! She is just over a year old and moved with me from Las Vegas to California. She’s not liking the change too well. She went from living in an air conditioned house to one that isn’t. She was the baby of the house and lived with a cat who actually liked her to where there is another older cat who is a brat (not mine though lol!)

This picture was one taken of her when she decided to play in a soda box. She used to be able to fit inside these boxes and would sleep in them. Now she’s a big girl and looks like only her head will ever fit again.

Review – MSI u100 Wind Netbook

Is it possible to be in love with a computer? If so then I’m truly in love with my netbook! If it were a persoMSI Netbookn (or if I were a computer) we’d make little netbook babies…I guess those would be like PDA’s then. *Sigh* who knows!

When I first started shopping for a netbook computer i was uber skeptical. Many of them came with some strange OS I’d never heard of, a 2GB hard drive and really were only able to surf the web. I’m guessing that’s why they’re caled netbooks in the first place. I needed something portable but able to leap small buildings in a single bound. OK not really but I did need to be able to edit MS Office files, get my email, listen to my podcasts and all those other things we like to do while we’re working.

I was so excited when I found the MSI u100 netbook over at Amazon. Since I use ZoomText I decided that the 8 inch screen Acer netbooks weren’t going to work. I needed a little bit bigger screen but still wanted that portability I desperately needed. The u100 has all of that and more!

This little baddy has a 160GB hard drive, Windows XP, 1GB ram (which is upgradable to 2GB.) and has a 10 inch screen! I purchaced the one with the 6 cell battery for a longer battery life. I am a lazy butt and procrastinator and hate to carry extra things with me. I didn’t want to have to lug around the cords!

The netbook is a little bulkier than some others. This is due to the 6 cell battery. It’s back heavy so if you’re trying to balance it on the arm of a chair or something you may want to make sure you have a good hold on it. I’ll gladly take the bulkier weight so that i can have better battery life though.

Once i got the u100 I immediately installed ZoomText on it. I had to do so off of a flash drive since the netbooks don’t have a CD drive. Why uses those things anymore anyway?  This went rather smoothy. ZoomText runs wonderfully on the netbook. I’ve not had any slowness while running it.

I’ll be honest, the sound quality isn’t the greatest. The speakers sound a bit tinny but are we really looking for high sound quality in a teeny portable computer? Once you plug your headphones into it the sound is perfect.  I prefer running it with headphones since i doubt the people at my local coffee shop want to hear Nine Inch Nails blasting out of the little speakers. Not all of us like my favorite band!

Of course the u100 also has a WiFi card in it. No matter where you’re at it’ll find you a signal. It was much better at doing so than even my old Toshiba laptop. I was very impressed by this. The speed of connection is great! m able to surf the web, download things, get my email and not have any slowness.  I’ve even beek known to watch streaming video and listen to streaming audio on here while working without a problem!

Needless to say I am super impressed with my netbook. I wouldn’t trade it for anything in the world. As a blogger and a student i have found that it has been the biggest help! At only around $380, it is a worthwile investment and will pay for itself a million times over.

Wordless Wednesday – Hard at Work or Hardly Working

First Day of School Feelings

::Its better to be absolutely RIDICULOUS than ...
Image by » Zitona « via Flickr

Today I started my first day of Fall semester courses. I’m doing my coursework online because I’m working part time among other things. It’s just easier this way. I don’t mean to say that online classes are easier than in person classes though! It’s actually a bit harder for this procrastinator! I’m learning new things as I go along. Time management is a biggie for me.

But the thing I wanted to talk about was the feelings that i had when I walked onto campus today for my orientation. I am 30 years old and have never really felt “old.” Oh my Goddess yes, I said the “O” word! I have friends of all ages from 17 to 80 and the feeling has never crossed my thoughts. I’ve joked about it often, usually when I get tired at 10pm. Today I honest to Goddess felt old. The worst part about it is that I felt like my mother or grandmother in the process!

“Geez those kids are so loud!.”

“Ugh that music is HORRIBLE!”

“Didn’t their parents teach them manners?”

“Get a room!”

Yes those were the thoughts that went through my head as I made my way to my on campus online orientations. At that moment I felt that the next step would be me pounding on the ceiling of an apartment to get the “loud kids upstairs” to shut up because it’s 10pm and the news is on.

It just feels so weird for me to feel this way. My mind has never really caught up with my age. I’ve always been sociable and liked to do things that “people my age” don’t normally do. I still wear Invader Zim shirts, I still like to dye my hair weird colors and get piercings, I love videogames, I love pixy stix and Rockstar! I also like to go out. It’s fun to get with the girls and go to a club or bar. Now I wonder if I should start watching Matlock and eating prunes!

It was just a weird realization that struck me pretty hard. I’m sure I’ll get over it when I put on my Nine Inch Nails shirt and Gir shoes tomorrow to go in to work at my rockin’ job as a reservationist for a dinner and show place here in Cali. But it was shocking still!

QUESTIONWhat do you do when you’re feeling “old?”

Family is Everything

I have had a realy hectic weekend. There has been big family drama and I’m just not equipped to handle such things. I hate drama! Seriously, I just cannot stand it. I don’t want to be a part of it and I don’t want it around me.

So when a bit of it started to unfold this weekend I retreated to my side of the house and got to organizing for the start of school tomorrow.

Long story short, one person is irritated with another because they feel as though the other is talking crap about them and not being “a grown up.” Other person is irritated with the one person because he acts as though he is “better than everyone else.” It’s been going on for years but things finally came to a head yesterday when one wasn’t invited to the other’s son’s baby shower. One wasn’t invited even though it was a “family gathering.”

As I said before I am just not equipped to handle this kind of nonsense. I shut down and close everything out. Why deal with BS when you don’t have to? It’s not like I can fix the situation. My days of “fixing” issues between people is LONG gone. I know it never works and always makes more drama than there was to begin with.

So here is my question for you

How do you handle family drama without causing more?

Lazy Saturday and Farmers Market Intertainment

Hollywood Farmers' Market.

Today was a lazy Saturday with the family. I didn’t have to work today so I got a lot of stuff done around the house. Mom got home around noon and we headed to the farmers market in Buena Park for a couple hours.

This was entertaining to say the least! Then again, it usually is  entertaining or an adventure when i go out. I stopped at one booth that had different produce. I asked if they had any peaches. The man looks at me quizzically.

“I don’t see very well and was wondering if you had any peaches.” I said.

“You don’t see what?” The man asked

“No, I mean I have a vision problem.”

“Oh well OK they’re over here.” he then points to the other side of the table from where I’m standing.

“Can you help me pick the freshest ones, I’m not sure how to pick out a good fruit.” I informed him.

“Oh it’s easy to see which one is ripe.”

*FACEPALM*

So I decided to head to a different table. I guess his partner overheard the whole situation and told the guy what I was asking and why because he came up to me and apologized. I wasn’t offended. I thought it was funny actually. I got my peaches as well as some other fruits and veggies then went on my merry way.

It is so interesting to me to see how different people understand a visual impairment. Many people just don’t understand that it’s not “all or nothing” when it comes to being legally blind. You can have partial sight. Heck, some of those who are legally blind can even drive if they have enough vision to use the right corrective lenses.

The rest of the trip went pretty smoothly except for the bit of a sunburn I came away with. I purchased some really good hummus with pita chips, some all natural pom juice, the above mentioned peaches and some strawberries.

I’ll be doing another post about shopping at the farmers market on a budget later.

Also if you ever have a question about blindness or how I do things with less sight please don’t hesitate to ask! Comments and email are always welcome.

Question – What are some of your random farmers market experiences.

Review – CoverGirl/Olay Simply Ageless

photo(4)

I have been on the hunt for my holy grail foundation for a REALLY long time. I have tried so many that I’d just about given up. It’s frustraiting when you decide to plunk down the dollars for a makeup product just to find that it doesn’t do all it says. Even worse, it does it for a few wears then just falls flat! I didn’t want to review this product until I was sure i was going to love it.

Well guess what? I FREAKING LOVED IT!!

I have a hard time with makeup at times. With my vision I’m not sure when I’ve got it blended right. Sometimes I get a foundation that just doesn’t sit right on my skin and I’m not the one to notice it. THis is usually a horrifying experience that leads me to a sprint to the closest water source for a “wash-up,” then a freak out. I didn’t have that problem with this product.

The worst part of the whole experience was trying to figure out how to open the darn thing! I’ve never had a problem opening makeup compacts. Usually there’s a button or a little latch, even just a little lip that you press up on. This compact had that! But, when I got it open I only found a sponge!

“So it’s pretend foundation then?” I thought as I tried to figure out how to get into the main compartment.  A few more minutes of prodding and poking the compact lead to “entry denied” status. I finally handed the compact over to my mother and she told me it was a screw top to get to the foundation part. I’m thinking this could have been designed a little better.

The CoverGirl Simply ageless foundation was really easy to blend into my skin. I could tell how much i had on the sponge by the feel of it, which is really a great thing for a compact foundation. I have had too many issues with globs of foundation on my sponge, then figuring out how to get the excess off. Once it was on I still had total blending control too! THis kept away the streaks that I ended up with when I have used other foundations. This foundation is really easy to use for those who don’t see well like myself.

Once the foundation was on my face it felt great. It’s not too heavy. It didn’t sink into the little lines around my eyes. This is so important. I know I don’t have a lot of lines or wrinkles but I don’t want the ones I DO have to be obvious. I also don’t want it to be obvious that I’m wearing foundation. The coverage wasn’t flawless like other compact foundations I’ve used though. It’s OK though because i now notice an improvement in my skin’s texture. My skin is starting to look a lot more flawless and even. The foundation really DOES do what it says.

I love how the CoverGirl/Olay Simply Ageless foundation doesn’t feel oily on my skin. By the end of the day it wasn’t gross either. I did have to pick up a pressed powder to control a little bit of shine that starts to come through by mid day. It would be great if CoverGirl would come out with a pressed powder or a compact loose powder to go with this line.

The only other thing that would help people to find the right shade with this foundation is if CoverGIrl would put out a foundation selection chart near the display. I had to go to a competitors line and use their chart then match their foundation with CoverGirl’s. This COULD take business away from the brand.

I will continue to use this product and recommend it to everyone I know.
